Hello, my name is Lynn Lopez, an editor, proofreader, and writer by trade and a videographer by passion. I’ve loved editing since I was a kid. That sounds like an exaggeration, but what happened was that I got a fairytale book as a gift for my confirmation, and the typos annoyed me so much I circled each one using a pencil (though I admit that I was mistaken in marking “poplar,” but hey, I was eight, I’m from the Philippines, and I had no idea what poplar trees are).
It’s little wonder then that I ended up in the publishing industry after university. I managed a women’s website, which probably sounds like it came out of nowhere, but I was heavily into web and graphic design when I was in college despite pursuing an unrelated degree. Eventually, I started writing articles for magazines and the Web. Occasionally, I was asked to proof pages for a major women’s magazine—a task that felt like a dream come true.
These days, I’m a copy editor working on academic papers and young adult and new adult novels. I’ve found that beyond deriving satisfaction from getting rid of errors, I genuinely enjoy reading what people have put a lot of effort into writing and helping make sure that their ideas come across clearly. Every now and then, I write articles, some of which I hope give people a new way of seeing things. I’ve also taken up videography just to cultivate a new skill and also to have somewhere to put some of my writings.
